Gluteal Augmentation and Implants
A shapely, well-rounded derriere is an enduring attractiveness symbol for women all over the world. There’s something about a nice butt that seems to compliment a woman’s figure perfectly. However, very few women are lucky enough to have a perfect natural behind. Genetic factors, aging, pregnancy, sun damage, or fluctuations in weight are among the factors that contribute to an unappealing butt.
For most, not even the best fitness trainers or workout routines can help them achieve the shape they want; which is where buttock enhancement surgery comes in. Buttock augmentation is a procedure used to improve the size, contour, or shape of buttocks.
History of Gluteal Enhancement Surgery
The history of gluteal augmentation is much shorter than the field of plastic surgical procedures. This post offers a little more about the first recorded buttock surgery:
The first reported attempts to surgically contour the buttock region in the medical literature were described by Bartels and colleagues in 1969. A mammary implant was placed unilaterally in the subcutaneous plane of the gluteal region to correct a deformity. This was closely followed by bilateral placement for aesthetic correction of platypygia. Problems associated with implant migration, capsular contracture, and migration quickly led to alternative placement in a submuscular plane between the gluteus maximus muscle and the gluteus medius muscle. A small submuscular space and anatomic constraints limited significant augmentation with a round implant. The inherent limitations of this procedure led to the development of intramuscular as well as subfascial planes for gluteal contouring with both silicone gel and silicone elastomer implants with more anatomic shapes.
The drain tubes following butt implant surgery are one of the major downfalls, but they are a necessary part of the healing process. In the big picture, only two weeks of dealing with them to have a lifetime of feeling good about the results are worth it.
Cost of Buttock Enhancement
Buttock enhancement surgery has become a popular procedure for many women all over the globe. However, on average, you will have to part with around $5,000 for a buttock enhancement surgery from a reputable surgeon. This cost is not covered by insurance, which is pretty standard for cosmetic surgical procedures.
The average cost of buttock augmentation with fat grafting is $4, 096, the average cost of butt implants is $4, 884 and the average cost of a butt lift is $5, 113 according to 2017 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Buttock enhancement costs can vary widely. The average fees referenced above do not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses.
A surgeon’s cost for buttock enhancement may vary based on his or her experience, the type of procedure used, as well geographic office location.

The recovery time depends on the type of surgery performed. A butt lift can heal in a week or two if you limit your activities and allow your body to devote all energy to healing. Implants need more time, usually 4-6 weeks till the patient can recover completely.
