Just Because You Can, Should You?
Each and every person in this world is unique and beautiful. On the same line of thought, most individuals have different concerns about their body that they would like to address.
That leads us to discuss some unique cosmetic surgical procedures that, believe it or not, are fairly popular and happen regularly. They are very specific to certain characteristics such as a gummy smile, back fat that makes clothing fit unsatisfactorily, or a bellybutton that is an outie.
Here are a couple unusual surgery requests:
The corners of our mouths droop as we age. But for an unlucky minority, this permanent scowl can make them look perpetually grumpy. The grin lift is the most effective way to turn this frown upside down.
For the procedure, a surgeon removes small skin triangles from above each corner of the mouth to cause it to lift. What’s the upside? People no longer ask you why you are upset. But there is a downside – this creates permanent scars that can make you look like The Joker.
Chubby Cheek Surgery
Chubby cheeks are cute in kids, but can make some adults look overweight or jowly. This can be improved by a buccal lipectomy.
In this minor surgery, the plastic surgeon makes a small incision inside the cheek and removes a gumball-sized chunk of fat. This causes the cheek hollows to contour inward, improving the jowly or “chipmunk cheek” look.

Individuals with pockets of excess fat feel frustrated with the inability to escape the issue. No matter how hard they exercise regularly there seems to be no visible change.
It is one thing to train in order to lose belly or leg fat, but some areas are not very conducive to a workout regimen. That is why many people resort to surgery to assist with the problem.
The cheeks are one such location. In this video, the doctor performs a surgery to remove fat pads in the cheeks so the patient will have more sculpted cheekbones.
The above-mentioned procedures are somewhat common, but other requests are really out of this world. Implants that change your eye color are one thing, but changing your ears so they are pointy like Spock on Star Trek or altering your palm lines to change your fate border on bizarre.
There is also a story about a Brazillian man who decided to have surgery to make his face look like a dog by implanting a dog’s ears, eyebrows, and snout. People were quite shocked until it was revealed that the parts were actually sewn to a replica of his head as a hoax, but the images depicting the surgery looked quite realistic.
Here are two more wild cosmetic surgeries that in my opinion take the cake:
During a process called prelamination, tissue is constructed in multiple layers: the skin on the outside, the cartilage, and the soft lining inside. Then the finished reconstructed tissue is transplanted to the correct area.
Fake ears constructed out of other body parts.
Cartilage can be taken from a person’s ribs, crafted into an ear shape, covered in skin, and pinned to the side of the face. It’s a great procedure for people who have lost ears, were born without them, or simply feel that two isn’t enough.

What it really comes down to is that everyone has a right to do what they want with their own body, and especially if there is an accident or illness causing a defect. The desire to stand out in a crowd or get in the record books for something ultra strange is a little different, but in California where becoming famous is a dream and career choice, I guess anything goes.
